the thing about working as a housekeeper is that sometimes I will be called to clean a room that is in such a state that it gives me pause.

The thing about being a housekeeper at a Hospital is that it is not the things that would usually be concerning that leave me with questions.

Like if I go clean a room and it is just covered in blood, I’m not all “where did all this blood come from” that would be silly. It came from inside the patient and they were already in a hospital so they’re probably mostly fine hopefully.

In fact “Inside the patient” is where most of the potentially concerning stuff I have to deal with comes from. Vomit? That’s from inside the patient. Urine? Feces? Inside the patient baby. Needles full of unidentified drugs? That was supposed to go inside the patient but I guess they frogot.

But when I go to clean a hospital room and it is full of Sand… Did that come from inside the patient? I hope not. Why is there so much sand? Where did it come from? Was there some kind of terrible beach accident?

I have many questions and I’m scared of the answers.

I did the Allied Beast Tribe questline for A Realm Reborn and met this Nhaza'a guy. He’s………. I can only describe him as proto-zenos??? I could not believe what I was reading, I guess they’ve been trying to make Zenos right from the very beginning of the game.

This is a deep cut because I don’t know how many people have even done that questline, but the direct line between these two amused me greatly.

i hope he makes a reappearance

Another thing that The Murderbot Diaries makes me think about is the concept of someone’s birth being unethical in and of itself, and how to reconcile that with loving and supporting them. Wells touches on it briefly in Rogue Protocol in regards to GoodNightLander and their laws surrounding SecUnits, but while I wouldn’t call it one of the main themes, it just kind of weighs uncomfortably in the air-

A SecUnit is made to cause pain, to feel pain, and to be disposed of when it is no longer more valuable than the sum of its parts. It is made sapient so it can feel every ounce of boredom and pain that it is put through. There is an extent to which the creation of a SecUnit is, in and of itself, an act of cruelty by its creator.

Where we’re at right now, Murderbot seems to have a rather low view of other SecUnits. It knows what it wants, and it knows who it is, to an extent, but what does it think about a SecUnit’s place in society in general? What does it think of in regards to a long term solution? Does it think one exists?

Then, also: Murderbot is an invaluable asset to anyone that it offers its allegiance to. But that then begs the question for Preservation, for PUoMaNT: How do you support, love, and care for a person who has been traumatized by having been brought into the world in the first place? How do you heal the wound that is the crime of your birth?

Then, taking it to its logical conclusion: How do you draft up laws and policies so as to support a person while not condoning the act of their creation? How do you make it clear to the person in question that they are worth of love and care, while also wrestling with whether they should ever have been brought into existence in the first place?

Preservation can make laws establishing constructs as autonomous individuals, but what next, and what will those laws do in regards to the rhetoric surrounding them?

How do you reconcile making space for someone’s existence in a utopian society, without saying the thing that you are thinking, which is: In a perfect world, you would never have been created?

And maybe this is just me being deep in the paint in regards to allegory for disability here. As someone who has been in leftist spaces where the existence of disabled individuals in post-capitalist society is a problem that needs to be fixed, as someone who grew up autistic in an anti-vax household, as someone whose existence is often rather inconvenient for the folks planning their jobs in the metaphorical post-capitalist communal homesteads.

I mean, to be certain, I don’t have literal guns in my arms, but I am genuinely interested as to how the post-capitalist societies in TMBD intend to handle people whose very existence is, through no fault of their own, antithetical to their values.

If anyone was wondering those are Clarence Court Burford Brown eggs and they’re like £6 for 10 and honestly worth it.

Wouldn’t use them as an ingredient, however, the yolk is great on its own.

i’m putting together a little compilation of Sav’s mobility devices so i can hammer out their designs/get more practice drawing them. i’m not anywhere close to done but i wanted to share the design for her rollator since it’s what she probably uses most often ^-^

A flat-colored, full-body digital drawing of Savtas, a young mirialan woman, seated in profile on a four-wheel, fold-up rollator with hand brakes. Savtas has green skin, brown eyes, and a long prematurely-grey braid that hangs down the length of her back. There are black geometric designs tattooed on her cheeks. She is dressed casually in a light gray shirt, fawn-colored ankle boots, and a gray-blue jumpsuit, the arms of which are tied around her waist. She appears to be engaged in conversation with someone out of frame. Her rollator is predominately cream-colored, with copper and dark gray accents. Two little holocron charms, designed to resemble the novelty dice you might hang off a car mirror, are attached to the end of one handlebar. There is a square blue bag attached to the underside of the seat.ALT

the limbs are designed to resemble the pillars of the old jedi temple! still working out how she decorates it, but of course i had to include some of the little holocron charms that she & Nia like to carry around. <3

D&D going mainstream really messed up people’s expectations cause chances are you’re not gonna find a DM who has the free time, talent and resources to put on a tale that competes with Tolkien. you’re gonna find your friend’s roommate Phil who’s read one of the manuals a few times and has to pause to get a calculator out to figure out how much damage your attack did and his story is blatantly ripping off a dragon age 2 side quest

i maintain people should try other ttrpgs, not only because they’re out there, but also the roleplay opportunities

it should never all be on the GM for you to have fun
